Purpose
Life Safety Units (LSUs) are specialized regional resources that support firefighter rehabilitation and incident operations during significant or extended emergency responses. Units are strategically located throughout Hennepin County to provide timely support to member departments.
LSU Host Departments
HCFCA Life Safety Units are currently hosted by the following departments:
- Eden Prairie Fire Department
- Excelsior Fire Department
- Golden Valley Fire Department
- Mound Fire Department
- Rogers Fire Department
- West Metro Fire Department
How LSUs Are Used
LSUs are incorporated into the regional box alarm system and may be automatically dispatched based on the alarm level and resources already assigned to the incident. This helps ensure rehabilitation and support resources are available during larger or extended incidents.
Firefighter Rehabilitation
Provides a dedicated resource to support firefighter rest, recovery, hydration, and rehabilitation during demanding emergency operations.
Regional Incident Support
Provides a shared regional resource that can be deployed to support departments during significant incidents, mutual aid responses, and extended operations.
